Five Key Mindsets Christians Need

The world is filled with catchy phrases and trendy taglines to keep those positive vibes going. Yet, is that what followers of Christ should be keeping as our primary mindsets? I’ve put together five key mindsets you need to guide you as a Christian in today's world.

1. God is who He says He is. God will do what He says He will do. This is the very foundation of our faith. We believe God is who He says He is, or we don’t have faith. Period. Reminding ourselves daily who He is will fortify our spirits as we face the quirks of life. Read your Bible more if you don’t know who God is or His promises. (Exodus 34:6-7, Psalm 116:5, John 14:6, Hebrews 13:8, Numbers 23:19, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Luke 11:13, Romans 8:28)

2. See God in everything. When you surrender your life to Christ, you are trusting that He is in control of everything. When living in alignment with God’s purpose for your life, you trust Him to lead the journey toward your purpose. In surrendering, you see God in everything, even rough stuff, and you can have peace that He is in control. (Proverbs 16:9, Philippians 4:4-7)

3. Know that you are loved. No matter what may come against you, including your negative thoughts, the God of the Universe is deeply, madly in love with you! His thoughts towards you outnumber the grains of sand in all the world. He even knows the number of hairs on your head at any given moment. (And I shed like crazy, so that amazes me!) Hold your head high even on your ickiest days; you are loved! (Isaiah 43:4, Ephesians 3:17-19)

4. Gratitude will shift everything. If you are having a great day, be grateful. If you are having an awful day, be grateful-er!!! Even in my worst moments, when I stopped looking at the current problem & began just to thank God for life, my heart turned from sorrow to joy. Many times, all I could muster at first was: thank you, I’m breathing. Thank you I’m in a house. Thank you I ate today. Thank you, I can see. Thank you I am warm. Once you start, keep going until your heart shifts to joy. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

5. You have a choice. You choose each day whom you will serve. God gives us a choice out of His great love. God does not force His will upon us. Knowing the choice is mine is empowering. At any given moment, I can choose life or death, to be a victim or a victor, blessings or curses. God will love me either way, yet my life here on earth will vastly differ depending on my choice. (Deuteronomy 30:19; Joshua 24:15)

As you begin to ground yourself in these foundational mindsets, I pray that God will continue to show Himself strong on your behalf, solidifying even more Truth in your mind, body, and spirit!
